NOT WHAT I EXPECTED | AVAILABLE NOW
AVREMI ZIPPEL
SURVIVOR | AUTHOR | ADVOCATE
After writing my memoir, Not What I Expected, I've continued to dedicate myself to empowering survivors, uplifting their voices, and continuing to build towards a world free from the horrors of abuse. Whether through keynote addresses, presenting to law enforcement, helping craft productive legislation, and my personal favorite - working one-on-one with survivors and their families, I've found a measure of purpose that I can bring to this world through my own painful experiences. It's what gets me out of bed each morning, and motivates me to dream of a world that a little eight-year-old boy that I'm still fighting for never had a chance at.

You'd think a 'man of the cloth' should skate through adversity in life, no? After all, believing and being connected to something larger than yourself should give you all that you need in your darkest hour? Turns out, it's not always the case. In this presentation, ideally geared towards faith groups of all kinds, Avremi shares his journey of wondering if there truly is an answer to every question, and his journey to believe in Heaven when life hurts like Hell.
In Avremi's 90 minute keynote, he asks the important question - What does justice look like for a survivor of child sexual abuse?
How can our system deliver a feeling of closure and peace to victims to some degree? A first-person account of a highly unusual journey coming back from years of childhood trauma, and lessons learned from a destination that seems as elusive as ever.
Survivors of CSA represent the entire spectrum of humanity, as they can be found in any and every community, the world over. By being able to show our children and ourselves positive examples of those that have survived CSA and gone on to live and lead healthy and productive lives, we are able to destigmatize the issue as it is perceived

By being able to show our children and ourselves positive examples of those that have survived CSA and gone on to live and lead healthy and productive lives, we are able to destigmatize the issue as it is perceived by society, and give survivors still in the shadows the inspiration and the courage to come forward, and join a brotherhood and sisterhood of defiance and determination.
